Alitalia-Linee Aeree Italiane-S.p.A. (.Alitalia.) hereby requests an exemption from 49 U.S.C. § 41301 authorizing Alitalia to engage in scheduled foreign air transportation of property and mail between points in Italy and Miami, Florida. Because the Department previously granted Alitalia the authority sought herein but the authority has expired due to an inadvertent calendaring error, Alitalia requests an immediate grant of this authority. Alitalia will poll the parties on the attached service list and report the results of the polling to the Department.

RENEW exemption from 49 U.S. C. 41301 to conduct scheduled foreign air transportation of property and mail between Italy and Miami, FL. On January 15, 1998, Alitalia informed us that it had polled the parties served with its application and that, with one exception, none objected to our acting in advance of the normal answer date (January 30, 1998) or to the merits of the application itself. Alitalia further informed us that the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) advised it that it opposes this application for the same reasons, having to do with labor concerns, that it opposed Alitalia's previous application for this authority (see Order 96-2-38, Docket OST 95-789).
