Exemption Application

TWA requests an exemption from 49 U.S.C. § 41 101, and such other relief as the Department may deem necessary and proper, in order to institute nonstop service between New York on the one hand, and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic and St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles, on the other, for a period of two years. TWA plans to inaugurate service in both markets on December 17, 1998. Service to Puerto Plata will be on a year-round basis, while service to St. Maartin will be seasonal.

TWA presently operates nonstop service between New York and the Caribbean destinations of San Juan and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. In December, it plans to expand its Caribbean service to provide daily service to the resort destination of Puerto Plata on the Dominican Republic's Northeast Coast, and offering five weekly frequencies to St. Maarten. TWA's service to St. Maarten will be suspended at the end of the winter season and resumed the following winter; service to Puerto Plata will be year-round. TWA's service from its New York hub will create online connecting opportunities for the numerous domestic points served by TWA from JFK Airport.
