American Airlines, Inc., under 14 CFR Part 212, hereby applies for amendment of its statement of authorization, initially granted by Department Action in this docket on November 2, 1999, to allow display of the designator code of Eva Airways Corporation on American's flights between San Jose, California and Taipei, Taiwan, which American plans to begin on April 1, 2001.
Eva holds the necessary underlying route authority to serve the San Jose-Taipei route in its foreign air carrier permit issued by Order 98-2-30, February 13, 1998, which authorizes service between points behind Taiwan, via Taiwan and intermediate points, and any point or points in the United States, and beyond.

EVA requests a statement of authorization to display the "AA*" designator code of American Airlines on flights operated by EVA in the following markets:
American holds authority in its certificate for Route 137 to provide service between any point in the United States and any point in Taiwan, as issued by Order 96-5-9 (March 4, 1996). Also pursuant to Order 96-5-9, American holds certificate authority to serve Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. With respect to each of these countries, the relevant bilateral permits U.S. carrier service via Taipei as an intermediate point. Therefore, American holds the requisite underlying authority in order to offer service from the U.S. via Taipei to each of the points covered by this application.
EVA requests expedited approval of this application so that it may display the "AA*" designator code on the named city-pairs for services commencing June 1, 2001.
