Hereby requests a statement of authorization permitting it to engage in codeshare operations with Linea Aerea Nacional Chile S.A. between Los Angeles, California, on the one hand, and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on the other hand, pursuant to a codeshare agreement.' Alaska requests that any statement of authorization granted by the Department remain in effect indefinitely. The parties intend to commence codeshare operations on the Los Angeles-Vancouver route on February 28, 2002. Codeshare service between Los Angeles and Calgary will begin soon thereafter.

Under the codeshare agreement between Alaska and LanChile, LanChile will place its two-letter designator code on Alaska's scheduled flights between Los Angeles and Vancouver beginning February 28, 2002, and between Los Angeles and Calgary as soon thereafter as practicable. Alaska's Los Angeles-Vancouver/Calgary flights will connect with LanChile's flights arriving in Los Angeles, providing LanChile's passengers with convenient connections to Canada. Alaska therefore requests a statement of authorization of indefinite duration permitting it to display LanChile's designator code on Alaska's Los Angeles-Vancouver/Calgary flights.
