Your, the FAA is having BUR airport send all of their jets directly over our once quiet neighborhood. We didnt ask for this. This never used to happen and it needs to change fast. This is a residential community, built up over years, and now you think it's okay to ruin our lives for what? Things need to go back to the way they were before 2017. Sherman Oaks was not built for this. Please make this stop at once. The noise is destroying our way of life. The north end of the runway at BUR is a landfill, send the jets that direction. It was built there because of the airport. Because no one wants to live under a flight path. This isnt hard.

Comment from Julie Kraft

Dear FAA,

I have lived at 3131 Gardenia Way, Superior, CO 80027 for nearly 20 years. I moved into this community and house in August 2003. My house backs to open space and I can see Colorado Highway 128 is in the distance.

Moving in I knew the Rocky Mountain Airport (formerly JeffCo Airport) was nearby. I expected and welcomed the occasional jet and small plane going over my house. We could still be in the backyard and on the back deck as they went over us without being disturbed. We especially were happy the airport was there for the slurry bombers to refuel and fill their slurry tank to help fight the forest fires in Colorado.

In the past couple of years the noise has gotten out of control. I can’t have windows or doors open during conference calls, as the other people on the call have a hard time hearing me and others as planes go over my house. It is rarely quiet during the day and evening and it is hard to enjoy being on my back deck and yard. The constant noise is horrendous. Even when the planes are not directly over my house or yard, I can hear the dull roar of these planes as they circle the area. I’ve recently been reading about the lead exposure from these small planes circling, this makes me nervous as lead is a carcinogen and we’re being exposed to it every few minutes all day, almost every day.

Below please find my log of times small aircraft flew over my house/yard in a 1 hour time block. I decided to keep track today as people on my conference commented again on how loud it is when I’m on a call with them. I started keeping track at 9:13am, Mountain Daylight Time.

34 small planes over my house/yard in a 60 minute time frame.

This does not include any jets taking off or landing at the airport, just small planes going over my house and/or yard.

The argument of – you moved next to an airport, what do you expect? – doesn’t hold water any longer. When I moved in 20 years ago this was not a problem. The number of planes polluting the air with noise and fumes is out of control right now. Please help me and our community by cuttine the number of flights/touchdowns/circling that can go in and out of Rocky Mountain Airport in Broomfield, Colorado.

Sincerely,
Julie Kraft

Comment from John Bahr

I have lived in my house in Rock Creek Northwest of Rocky Mountain Metro Airport (KBJC) for 22 years. My house is directly beneath the 30L departing route.

As someone who is fascinated by all forms of aviation, and someone who has a large number of pilot friends, I have been tolerant of the airport noise, until 2020. In the last 3 years the amount of single-engine private pilot traffic seems to have tripled or more. In the morning hours now, when traffic is departing on runway 30L, traffic starts at 5am and becomes nearly constant by 7am, one aircraft every minute or two, until 10am. I have measured the noise levels outside my house from single-engine traffic at 86 dB peak (see attached screenshots). This nearly constant, very loud aircraft traffic noise makes it impossible to carry on a conversation, work outside, or enjoy being outside at all.

I have many friends who are pilots and some of them fly out of KBJC and they also have commented on how busy the airport is. They have also apologized, and expressed concern for me and my neighbors, for having to fly directly over us at full throttle.

I know that adding noise suppression mufflers to these aircraft is not possible, due to many factors, but something should be done to reduce either the amount of traffic or the number of residences overflown. This problem has gotten so bad that I'm now complaining about the activity that my friends enjoy so much.

Please consider making an impactful PR.

Comment from Allan Timm

As a homeowner in the Coal Creek Canyon area of Gilpin County, southwest of Boulder Colorado and Northwest of Golden Colorado a combination of the FAA's "Next Gen Flight System" and a substantial increase in flights has greatly diminished quality of life and enjoyment of my property.

While I understand there are some necessary expectations in regards to modern civilization activity, this concentration of airplane noise on several established GPS flight paths has escalated from a mere presence to a bothersome annoyance from 2022 into 2023.

Daily hundreds of aircraft fly within several miles or less of my residence at increased engine thrust to gain altitude over the mountainous terrain. The engine noise reverberates off the rocky terrain interrupting sleep, study, or enjoyment of my home both inside and outside. Ideally, all the residents of the Colorado front range should bare these side effects of modern travel whether through more flight paths alternating or a greater dispersion over a wider area both urban, suburban, and rural.
